About Saint Ignatius Orthodox Press

Mission and Principles

Saint Ignatius Orthodox Press exists to produce products of excellence to the glory of God the Holy Trinity, as we work to share the light of the historic Christian faith found in Orthodox Christianity. We humbly do our part to fulfill our Savior's commission to increase the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church through educational and worship materials.

We believe strongly in promoting "the good estate of the holy Churches of God, and the unity of all," as we pray in our divine worship. In this, we strive for a pan-Orthodox appeal in everything we do.

Name and Logo

Our patron is Saint Ignatius the God-bearer of Antioch, a disciple of the Apostle John and one of the first Christian bishops. We are inspired by his bold faithfulness in proclaiming the faith, and his singular focus on his sacred calling. Saint Ignatius' letters to the churches, which he wrote on the journey to his martyrdom in Rome, are among the earliest witnesses to the life and times of the early Christian Church, which we believe lives on to this day in the Eastern Orthodox Church. We desire to share this good news with the world, which leads us to our mission.

The white shield represents the brightness of the holy life we are called to. The blue chevron evokes an open book, the sacred words we humbly publish. The red heart with the gold Chi Rho (IX) symbol recalls an account of Saint Ignatius' martyrdom: the Saint was devoured by lions in the arena, but his heart remained. A Roman soldier cut it open, and found the name of Jesus Christ (Iesous Xristos) inscribed in gold letters within it. He truly carried Christ in his heart. The wreath of wheat recalls both the divine harvest and Saint Ignatius' famous words, "I am the wheat of God, and am ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of God."
