Description

There are many prayer books, but those wanting an authentic and accessible expression of the Church's ancient cycles of liturgical worship, in its rich variety, can look to the Anthologion and its riches, composed by Saint John of Damascus and others.

From the very beginning, Christians gathered for prayer at fixed hours to pray. These prayers centered on the Psalms, and in the desert monasteries they developed into the daily prayers of the Church that we still use today.

The Anthology of Prayer or Anthologion is an Eastern Orthodox prayer book that uniquely includes a treasury of selections from the riches of Orthodox prayer and worship, including:

  • The Book of Hours (Horologion) with Lenten and Paschal variations
  • The Book of Eight Tones (Octoechos)
  • The common services of Saints (General Menaion)
  • Services for all 12 Great Feasts (Festal Menaion)
  • Selections from Great Lent and the Paschal season (Triodion and Pentecostarion)
  • Traditional morning and evening prayers
  • Full Orthodox Psalter divided into the 20 Kathismata for daily reading
  • Topical prayers for different occasions
  • And much more

Suitable for use individually or with a group, this monumental book aims to fill the place that the Breviary or Liturgy of the Hours fills for Western Christians: offering the full daily office of prayer in a slightly simplified form, with texts for special feast days and seasons. It is a prayer library in a single book.

Absolutely love the Orthodox Liturgy or otherwise Divine Office

Absolutely love the Orthodox Liturgy or otherwise Divine Office. I am a Roman Catholic and I have used the traditionalist Benedictine Breviary for the past two years for the Office but now I'm using the Anthologion I absolutely love it!

A Must Have for Romans who Became Orthodox

Coming from the Roman "Liturgy of the Hours" and "Divine Worship:Daily Office", I craved the ability to pray morning and evening prayers with scripture, Psalms, and collects. I couldn't find a good way to pray "readers" versions of matins and vespers at home, and became discouraged. Then I found the original (modern) anthologion and realized it was the perfect fit. Initially I struggled with the language because it didn't sound like the liturgy in church, nor did it help me commit to memory the verbiage of those liturgies. Then the "traditional language" version came out and I found it perfectly complemented my attendance at church liturgy.

Excellent.

As usual, the book arrived in perfect condition and it is beautifully printed and bound. An Orthodox Christian should put this on their list of 'must-haves!

“When you assemble as a Church…”

A treasure on earth to glorify God.
Thank you for putting this together.
I use primarily for daily prayers but also for small gatherings.
After purchasing a copy for myself I ordered further copies for enthused brothers and sisters of our Church.
As a book beautifully put together in print form and construction.
My only wish is that there was a more comprehensive glossary of terms such as Apolytikion, etc, and where to find such insertions in the book.
God bless you all
