Description
There are many prayer books, but those wanting an authentic and accessible expression of the Church's ancient cycles of liturgical worship, in its rich variety, can look to the Anthologion and its riches, composed by Saint John of Damascus and others.
From the very beginning, Christians gathered for prayer at fixed hours to pray. These prayers centered on the Psalms, and in the desert monasteries they developed into the daily prayers of the Church that we still use today.
The Anthology of Prayer or Anthologion is an Eastern Orthodox prayer book that uniquely includes a treasury of selections from the riches of Orthodox prayer and worship, including:
- The Book of Hours (Horologion) with Lenten and Paschal variations
- The Book of Eight Tones (Octoechos)
- The common services of Saints (General Menaion)
- Services for all 12 Great Feasts (Festal Menaion)
- Selections from Great Lent and the Paschal season (Triodion and Pentecostarion)
- Traditional morning and evening prayers
- Full Orthodox Psalter divided into the 20 Kathismata for daily reading
- Topical prayers for different occasions
- And much more
Suitable for use individually or with a group, this monumental book aims to fill the place that the Breviary or Liturgy of the Hours fills for Western Christians: offering the full daily office of prayer in a slightly simplified form, with texts for special feast days and seasons. It is a prayer library in a single book.

- Over 1300 pages of sacred prayers, scriptures, and hymns, forming the foundation of Orthodox prayer and worship

Beautiful. I bought them as a Baptiism/Chrismation gift.
Such a beautiful prayer book. Very easy to use also. I recommend it to anyone who needs a good prayer book
An excellent product. Glad I waited for the traditional english version.
This work is amazing! It is beautiful to use and the translations are fantastic. There ARE some typos, but that is to be expected in a work this size. If you want to begin to pray with the Church, especially when you are unable to be in church, I highly recommend purchasing a copy today.
A substantial improvement over the already impressive contemporary English Anthologion, the traditional version uses language that will be more familiar (at least to American) to the majority of English speaking Orthodox Christians. And I don't just mean thee/thou - this new edition recognizes the adoption of words like Theotokos into the common English lexicon of Orthodox Christians and reverses clunky editing and translation decisions. It is my sincere hope that the contemporary English version can follow suit.
Fair warning: there are a lot of typos, especially in the Psalms. If that bothers you too much, wait for a future printing. Typos are simply a reality with all first printings from Saint Ignatius Orthodox Press.
